Chamber of Secrets, Chapters 9 & 10

Before I get to the new chapters, there’s something I want to mention. I’ve been doing a lot of searching for art in the past day or two, looking for pieces to fill in gaps in the story. And while doing so, I ran across a couple of members on deviantArt who had familiar-looking artwork – it was art I have in my collection, and that I’ve received permission to post on this site – only it was posted on dA by people other than the artists, essentially trying to steal credit for their work. One even had the gall to try to sell prints of the pieces for profit.

I just want to put out there that if you are someone who is doing this, or someone who has ever thought of doing this, don’t. Just… don’t. Taking credit for someone else’s work is stealing, to be sure, but it’s more than that. Because artwork isn’t just a possession – it’s an expression of who someone is, of their identity. I’ve been trying all day to think of a metaphor for something that would make me feel this violated, and I can’t. But suffice it to say that copyright laws don’t just exist because of the potential for profit; they also exist to protect the dignity of the people who create so much of the beauty in our world.

For those of you out there who enjoy the work of others respectfully – which I know is just about all of you – THANK YOU. And please, when you find someone else who isn’t doing the same, take the time to let the artists (or authors, or whomever it might be) know. And if you’re on a site like dA that has a system, report them to the proper authorities. Fan artists give us a gift in sharing their work with us online, and in doing so they run the risk of others stealing it. Helping them fight piracy should be an obligation for those of us who don’t have enough ways to properly thank them.

Anyway, thank you for obliging my rant, and as a special treat we now have… two more chapters! Haha, yay. It’s another combination page, but it’s one I think is a lot of fun:
Chamber of Secrets chapters nine and ten: The Writing on the Wall and The Rogue Bludger.
Hope you enjoy!
