Goblet of Fire, Chapter 21

In the early days of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling received occasional criticism that Hermione was something of a “cardboard cut-out,” a more stereotyped character than her friends. In this book, though, her personality has begun to branch out more, and she’s definitely fun to watch – especially with a big reality check looming on the horizon in the form of the house-elves. The three members of the trio are all growing up at different paces, and this year it’s definitely Hermione’s turn.
