Order of the Phoenix, Chapter Thirty-Seven

I can’t believe we’re almost done with book five! And I can’t believe it took us this long to find out what the books are really about….

I’m referring, of course, to the prophecy. Which, if you think about it, is really the catalyst for the entire story line of the Harry Potter series. Had it not been made – and had a certain Death Eater not overheard part of it – Voldemort would not have attempted to kill Harry Potter as a baby, and seven books about the subsequent development of his character would have been quite boring indeed, and not at all likely to make the international bestseller lists.

Of course, we also learn in this chapter that it could just as easily have been another kid as it was Harry, but for Voldemort’s choice. But Neville Longbottom and the Order of the Phoenix somehow just doesn’t have the same ring to it, I don’t think, do you?

Anyway, I finally want to extend a warm welcome to our new artist, Runcible, whose brilliant drawing of Dumbledore appears in this chapter. Welcome!
