New Artist: Caladan

It’s been over three years since I began work on this website, but I very distinctly remember that in the early months of planning, at one point I had a list of artists who I felt I absolutely had to include in order for this site to be complete, or even viable. There were maybe eight or ten names on it, including favorites who have popped up on these pages over and over again – people like Laurence Peguy, Marta T, Heather Campbell, or gerre. But when I started contacting artists to get permission to use their work, there were two names on this list that I was never able to get in touch with. In the meantime I had found more art from other sources, and I ultimately decided to push ahead with the site even though I couldn’t use the work from those two magnificent people.

Well, a few months ago I was lucky enough to finally get in touch with Mudblood428 (thanks to some help from reallycorking, another name on that fabled list!), and I can’t tell you how excited I was the day I was able to begin posting her work to the HPC.

But then, a couple of weeks ago, I got an e-mail out of the blue. From Caladan. The last name on my list.

There are so many talented fan artists out there, I doubt I could ever choose a favorite. But Caladan is unquestionably very, very close to the top. I am truly honored to be including such beautiful artwork on this site. And I can’t tell you how over-the-top excited I am to have every name on that old list, and feel confident that all of the top Harry Potter artists are now featured on the HPC.

So I’m starting off today by adding ten of my favorite drawings by Caladan, which you can either see all in one place on this page or (my preference) in context with their chapters:
– Dumbledore leaving Harry on the Dursleys’ doorstep, in PS1;
– Harry and Lupin talking about dementors in Lupin’s office, in PA8;
– Two drawings of Lupin battling in the Department of Mysteries, in OP35;
– Dumbledore dueling Voldemort at the Ministry, in OP36;
– The aftermath of Harry’s Sectumsempra spell, in HBP24;
– Harry force-feeding Dumbledore potion in the cave, in HBP26;
– Harry and Dumbledore leaving the cave, also in HBP26;
– Snape and Dumbledore on the astronomy tower, in HBP27; and
– Snape facing Harry as he runs from Hogwarts, in HBP28.

Welcome again to Caladan – and I hope you all enjoy!
