Looking to the Future

This is another page I’ve had sitting in queue for a while, and wanted to go ahead and post. It’s actually one of the Off Camera pages I’ve always most looked forward to. It takes a look at what life might have been like for the first days, weeks, and months after Voldemort’s fall:

Harry Potter Off Camera: The Aftermath

The extremes of emotions in those times are really appealing from an artistic perspective, and the artwork absolutely lives up to them. So I hope you enjoy!

  1. I have just been reading the comments to The Cave chapter of Half-Blood Prince. The comments regarding inferi and their absence from the Battle of Hogwarts. I have two thoughts, one related to plot, and another related to author’s choices (and maybe readers’ preferences).

First, as events were rushing toward the battle events at Hogwarts, Voldemort was in sort of one-track-mind mode, looking in his hidey holes for his Horcruxes. Even though he went to the lake in the cave, he was focusing on the absence of the locket, and had a couple others to check on. Summoning his army of inferi would have taken time and effort he was using for his ‘safety patrol’ quick check.

Second, reading the disappointment of some readers that inferi didn’t show up, it may be, just maybe, that Ms Rowling was too familiar with the growing Zombie craze. This would have been a bit too much like Harry Potter and the Attack of the Living Dead for her taste. I certainly like to think so. We certainly didn’t need Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Neville, and Luna becoming zombie fighters. And it would have added nothing, nothing, to the plot.

So I for one am glad that Harry didn’t join the future books involving Elizabeth and Darcy, or Lincoln as literary fighters of the undead. The enemies the group faced were enough without that nonsense, too.

  2. I would really love to see the essays for. books 6 and 7. It really seems like there would be some really interesting stuff to dive into. Hope you can find the time.
